Israel negotiates JASSM missiles with the US to boost strike capabilities (X @LockheedMartin)
Israel is in advanced negotiations with the United States to acquire JASSM cruise missiles, which could significantly enhance its long-range strike capabilities.
The extended version (JASSM-ER) has a range of over 900 km, allowing aircraft such as the F-35, F-15, and F-16 to hit targets without entering enemy airspace. This new acquisition would strengthen Israel’s arsenal, which already includes missiles like the Delilah-GL and Jericho ballistic missiles.
Unlike the Jericho missiles, considered strategic weapons for extreme scenarios, the JASSM provides greater flexibility for accurate conventional strikes. This is seen as an advantage in potential operations against targets in Iran and Yemen, from where recent threats have emerged. The purchase intention is favored by the stance of Donald Trump’s government, which expanded arms sales to allies and has been receptive to this type of deal.
In addition to the JASSM, the US also approved the sale of thousands of aerial bombs and AGM-114 Hellfire anti-tank missiles for Israeli Apache helicopters, as well as JDAM precision kits for various types of bombs, such as the Mk.84 and BLU-109.
These acquisitions are part of a broader effort to modernize and strengthen Israel’s air power.
